Non-fiction anthology.
This is a nice collection of tiny essays on the mundanities and banalities of life—a glass of whisky, a folded album cover, passing smiles, a stolen turnip, washing the windows, and a lot more of that kind of thing.
There are some lovely passages, and the book is probably best enjoyed by dipping into it over a longer period of time; I enjoyed it less, I imagine, by reading straight through. Many of these meditations are thoughtful; a few are, well, shrug—but the book is enjoyable as a whole. Recommended for more literary types, people who enjoy words for their own sake.
Thank you to Edelweiss and to Archipelago Books for the DRC.
